Commonwealth Games 2014 - Queen's baton relay

Three Day Race

This event consists of a series of 3 races over 3 days, adding up to a distance of about a marathon.

You can do any of the three runs or all of them as a series.

There are club points for each run plus club points for the series.

The first race is on Friday evening the 14th June 2019, starting at 6.00 pm from James Cook University and is around 9.5Km.
For the Friday night run, every competitor should carry or wear either a light or a reflector for safety, as it will be dark by the time this run has finished.

Race 2 is on Saturday morning the 15th June, starting at 6.30 am from Strand Park, near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club and is around 19.2Km.

Race 3 is on Sunday morning the 16th June, starting at 6.30 am from Strand Park, near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club and is around 13.5Km.

The entry fees are: - The cost for TRR club members for each race is $5, or a one off payment of $15. The cost for non members are $8 per race, or a one off fee of $24.

There will be prizes for the first 3 male and female finishers of the full combined race.

There is no official short course for this event, but there is an option to run your own course.


Race 1: - 9.35 Km

The course starts on the road in front of the Social Sciences building and turns into Buchan Road. Turn left into Endeavour Road and turn right to rejoin Buchan Road. Turn left into James Cook Drive (the ring road) and follow this back to the Social Sciences building and repeat the route for the 9.35 Km course to then finish at the Social Sciences building.

Race 2: - 19.98 Km

The course starts at Strand Park near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club and follows the path to turn left into Howitt Street, then left into Eyre Street. Follow Eyre Street and after Gregory Street cross over Eyre Street (taking care and giving way to traffic) to the opposite footpath. Follow the footpath into Denham Street to turn right into Sturt Street, then right into Stanley Street. Follow Stanley Street onto Castle Hill Road past the lower carpark to turn right at the steps to Yarrawonga. Follow the steps onto Balmoral Place and turn left into Yarrawonga Drive, then left into Chandon Place and then onto the path past the water tank. Exit past the water tank onto Grange Court and continue onto Taylor Street.  Turn left into Potts Street, right into Evans Street, and continue across Bundock Street (taking care and giving way to traffic when crossing Bundock Street) to turn right onto the canal path.  Follow the canal to turn left onto Pallarenda Road.  Turn around 150 meters past the Town Common access road at Beach Access Number 9, and return the same way until the intersection of Sturt Street and Denham Street. Cross Denham Street (taking care and giving way to traffic), turn left and follow the footpath to Oxley Street, then turn left onto The Strand promenade to finish at Strand Park near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

Race 3: - 13.84 Km

The course starts at Strand Park near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club and follows the promenade to turn left into Howitt Street, then right into Mitchell Street, left into Isley Street, right into Cook Street, then left onto The Espalnade.  At the end of the road turn left into Ryan Street, right into Primrose and then right into Pallarenda Road. Cross the bridge at Captains Creek, cross Pallarenda Road and then recross Captains Creek onto the path beside the canal. Follow the canal path and turn left onto Evans Street, then right onto Bundock Street.  Cross Bundock Street when safe (taking care and giving way to traffic), turn left into Stagpole Street, right into Echlin Street and then left onto Ingham Road.  Follow Ingham Road to Flinders Street taking care and giving way to all traffic when crossing the Sturt Street intersection.  Turn left into Flinders Street, then left into Stanley Street, right into Sturt Street, then left into Stokes Street.   At the top of Stokes Street turn right into Victoria Street, left into Murray Street, right into Gregory Street, left into Paxton Street, and continue to the end of Paxton Street and into Yarrawonga Drive.  Turn right into Gilbert Crescent, and at Warburton Street cross the road (taking care and giving way to traffic), and turn right onto the concrete path.  Turn left into Landsborough Street, right onto The Strand promenade to finish at Strand Park near the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
